NNWE welcomes government’s industrial strategy

New Nuclear Watch Europe (NNWE) believes the nuclear industry could benefit substantially from government’s industrial strategy, but the strategy needs to be right if we are to see a nuclear revival in the UK.

Lord Hutton’s role in overseeing work to improve UK competitiveness and skills in nuclear is welcomed and NNWE is keen to engage with the government and play a full part in this important piece of work.

Commenting on the green paper published today, Tim Yeo, Chairman of NNWE, said: “There are three main strands that NNWE would like to see adopted through government’s industrial strategy, namely: an expansion of the nuclear supply chain identifying those parts of the supply chain that can be best sourced within the UK; development and exploitation of the UK’s considerable expertise in nuclear decommissioning and waste; and measures to ensure the provision of a UK workforce whose education and skill sets equip them for the opportunities that a nuclear revival will create”.
